Of course, one of the most popular theme parks in the world would be Disneyland.

Those who grew up watching Disney movies dream of going to a Disneyland park somewhere in the world. The closest to us would be Hong Kong or Tokyo Disneyland. Not everyone can afford the trip but, that could all change as word on the street is: Malaysia is getting our very own Disneyland! But is this true? Let’s find out.

It’s been reported that the state of Melaka will be home to Disneyland’s first theme park in Southeast Asia. According to a news report by TV3, the plans for the park are still in the early stages. It is said that the Disneyland park will be built at Jasin, Melaka although the exact location has not yet been disclosed by State Tourism, Heritage and Culture Exco member, Datuk Muhammad Jailani.

Not only will Melaka supposedly be the home to this Disneyland theme park, but it was reported that the park will be the largest theme park in Southeast Asia. The ambitious project is expected to cost around RM2 billion and be completed in 2027. “It will further improve our target to increase the target of 20 million tourists within three years and return to the original track of 18.7 million tourists that we have achieved in 2019,” said Datuk Muhammad Jailani.

The news of Disneyland being built here in Malaysia may sound exciting, but it also raised concerns among netizens as there was no official announcement from Disney themselves. Although it was ‘officially’ announced after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the proposed project, no Disney representatives were present during the press conference which made netizens question the legitimacy of the news and we know just how strict Disney can be when it comes to announcements.

According to Geek Culture’s sources, the news is apparently untrue as Disney currently has no plans to build another theme park. The media outlet also pointed out that there were no official Disney representatives present when the announcement was made and even mentioned that Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse mascots would always make an appearance for any Disneyland announcements, which they didn’t during the MoU press conference.

At the time of writing, there has been no official statement from either Disney or the State Tourism, Heritage, and Culture Exco members regarding the alleged fake news. What do you guys think? Is the news fake or was it all just a complete misunderstanding?
