Tony Fernandes: “AirAsia Promises To Pay Everyone Back”

Until they get their money back, Tony Fernandes won’t hear the end of it. AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes has been under fire for the longest time as the airline company have yet to give out refunds for cancelled flights during the Covid-19 pandemic two years ago.

Passengers have been blowing up social media and even emailing the airline company demanding their refunds especially after it was revealed that the CEO and Executive Chairman, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun received more than RM14 million in salary last year. This beckons the question, “what is taking them so long with the refunds?”

Two years ago, the travel restrictions during the pandemic had caused many airlines to suffer as they were left with no choice but to cancel flights to minimise the spread of the virus for everyone’s safety. Usually, if your flight is cancelled, you’ll get a refund but unfortunately for AirAsia passengers, they have yet to receive theirs.

But that may change soon as the CEO of AirAsia, now known as Capital A, posted on his Instagram sharing with his followers about their plans in paying everyone back soon. “We do what it takes and despite no financial support we will get everyone back to work and pay everyone back because we do what it takes to win and do the right thing,” he captioned the post.

As to why it took them so long to reschedule flights, the 58-year-old clarified that it actually takes a while to service planes that have not been active for 2 years. Reaction to the posts have been mixed with some complaining about the company’s services while others are showing support for the CEO and the airline.

You know what they say, “you can’t please everyone”. But we do hope that everyone will be fully refunded for their canceled flights and that they’re able to reschedule them so they’d get to enjoy their holidays.
