On Tuesday (April 9), the day before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a total of 1,631 accidents were reported across Malaysia, according to the police.
The authorities also confirmed that there were 18 fatalities as a result of these accidents.
While the number of accidents was slightly lower than the previous day’s 1,683 cases, there were unfortunately four more deaths recorded.
Ops Selamat 22 was launched on April 8 and will run until April 13 to ensure road safety during the festive period.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain advised individuals traveling back to their hometowns to plan their journeys in advance and to exercise patience and responsibility while on the road.
He also reminded homeowners returning to their hometowns or going on vacation to inform the police so that regular patrols can be conducted in their neighborhoods.
